Review: The talented superstar trio of Greg Foat, Aleksi Heinola and Teemu Akerblom all link up for this superb new Gone to the Cats album on Jazzaggression Records. It is a seductive suite of brilliantly improvisational, beat-laden and jazzy soundtrack jams. Musically it brings together the artists' UK and Finnish backgrounds across the eight mellifluous tracks. There are gentle summer swoons like 'Feline Fantasy', busier rollers such as 'Valley Of The Black Cats' and glowing late-night gems like 'Three Mjau Waltz.' This is a perfect accompaniment to any relaxed home listening session for the modern jazz lover.

Review: Helsinki funk legends Kuja Orchestra return with a fresh lineup and a brilliant blend of Latin, soul, blues, disco-funk, African, and Oriental influences. Their new album Seasons in Rhythm, part of Jazzaggression's library series, was recorded over two years at Studio Pelto and showcases core members guitarist Timo Hatva and bassist Aku Helin alongside new recruits keyboardist Miska Puusa and drummer Tony Pelkonen. Session musicians include Joose Kyyro on sax and flute, Heikki Tuhkanen on trombone, and Toimi Tytti on vocals. This eclectic mix of funky Latin, Afrobeat and cosmic grooves comes on nice heavy 180g vinyl.

Review: Three years ago, Finnish nine-piece Kuja Orchestra delivered a superb album of funk-fuelled mutations of jazz, Afrobeat, Latin jazz, dub and psychedelic rock. It was rather good, though undoubtedly criminally overlooked. Happily, the DJ Doe-based outfit has finally returned to action via a delightfully positive and entertaining six-tracker on Jazzaggression. There's much to enjoy throughout, from the Afro-tinged, jazz-dance-friendly brilliance of 'Sauna Funk' and the warm jazz-funk flavours of 'Elevator Groove', to the rousing dancefloor hedonism of 'Kuja's Disco', and the fittingly titled fun of celebratory closing cut 'Party Boat'. From start to finish, the collective combines superb grooves with some seriously good solos and horn arrangements.

Review: The Boston-based band The Post Pop Space Rock Be Bop Gospel Tabernacle Chorus and Orchestra was led by Webster Lewis and this album was recorded live in Oslo, Norway, in 1971. The original album was released in 1972 and this expanded edition includes previously unreleased songs, unseen photos and the full backstory of the historic concert. It is a rather rare recording that showcases spiritual and soul jazz at its finest and blends instrumental and vocal tracks for a unique, eclectic sound that has made it highly sought after. Newly transferred from the master tapes, it offers improved sound quality and is a must-buy for jazz cats.

Review: Estonia native Misha Panfilov has been making waves in the vibrant rare groove scene, solidifying his presence with a string of personalized albums.
