Review: Merriware is the latest label to emerge from the bustling Melbourne electronic music scene. Like city rival Butter Sessions, Pascal's imprint specializes in intelligent, analogue-driven electronic music rooted in deep house and techno. They're also rather inspired by the humid field recordings and head-in-the-clouds samples of early 90s ambient house; both A-side tracks, and in particular Rudolph C's thrillingly dreamy opener "Julia", come smothered in sticky rainforest sounds. On the flip, Pascal impresses with the solo production "Cover Up" - all cascading alien synthesizer melodies and rubbery deep house rhythms - and Lou Krash drops some suitably blazed dub techno (the excellent "Laughing Waters").
