Mirko Vogel is no newcomer to production, having begun his music-making journey way back in the 1990s. Even so, 2015's eponymous, digital-only EP for Room 40 is his sole "official release". This debut album, then, has been a long time coming. Made up of nine lilting ambient soundscapes, LP1 subtly shifts from the beat-less, minimalist techno hypnotism of "Glass" and the crystalline piano motifs of "Cloud Chain", to the restless bleeps of "Night City Landing", via the gently falling strings and chords of "Bow", the pulsing electronics and treated guitars of "Agassiz Rift" and the fluid, FFWD style bliss of "By Sea". In other words, it's an album full of not only subtle variations, but also impressively emotive compositions.
