Review: Considering the impact and prominence of Croatia's festival scene - pre-COVID at least - it seems perfectly reasonable and accessible to start describing Double Geography's exceptional debut album with something like "Barbarella's in slow-mo groove mode". Tracks like 'Norfolk Island Palm' and 'Golden Pothos' invoke the open-air venue set among lush Adriatic vegetation, specifically when the crowd is warming up for a night of trippy, hypnotic, Balearic-influenced, weird and wonderful leftfield tunes. Melodic and warm, groovy but never locked, tracks seem to unfold and grow on inviting vibes, a fitting visualisation considering the record's floral theme, their rhythms hook you without necessarily revealing their intent. Resistance is useless, but you don't initially realise how far you're being drawn in. Even the most abstract moments, say 'Saint Paulia', are built around focused production, rather than glassy-eyed waviness, making for a curiously commanding but relaxed listening experience.

Review: While hearing the words double geography might send you into an immediate cold heat as you're transported back to school and the thought of a long afternoon in a sweaty classroom, this Double Geography stands for quite the opposite. Open Water is the solo vehicle for audio engineer and Weird Weather member Duncan Thornley who hooks up with jazz greats like Greg Foat and Kaidi Akinnibi. It is an utterly blissed-out sound for happy daydreams and summery reveries with drifting sax notes, languid grooves and gentle Beatrice breezes washing over you to soothing effect.

Review: "The foundations of some of these pieces were laid almost a decade ago, others more recently. All of them came into being as sketches intended as Komodo Kolektif tracks to develop but for various reasons this didn't happen. The Seven Heavenly Elements was first presented to the group in 2019 but partly through personal differences in musical taste as well as COVID throwing a spanner in the works it was put aside and never worked on collectively." Gamma Knife calls on the power of instruments including djembe, Berber square drum, Moroccan metal castanets, shaker, tambourine, bongos, maracas, rattle, Javanese gong ageng, Javanese kempul, Javanese saron, Balinese gong ageng, Balinese kempul, Roland R8 Mk II, DSI Mopho, Roland Jupiter-8, Roland SH-101, Sequential Circuits Pro One, Behringer TD-3, Moog Voyager, Moog Minitaur and jaw harp for a staggering journey into ritualistic futurism and space-age ceremony. Very special indeed.

Review: ***B-STOCK: Creasing to corner of outer sleeve but otherwise in excellent condition***

It's taken a while, but finally Glasgow's Komodo Kolektif has delivered a sequel to its' inspired debut EP, 2017's "Sumantras". It's a biggie, too: an intoxicating, hallucinatory debut album that further explores their obsessions with trance-inducing rhythms, Indonesian gamelan instruments and psychedelic electronic futurism. At times, the album is wild-eyed, panicked and intense (see the hallucinatory throb of opener "Disciple Of The Drone" and the entrancing "Temple Ball"), at others sparse, chiming and bass-heavy ("Sun And Water"). The headline attraction is undoubtedly B-side opener "Festival Of The Black Sun: Evocation/Transfiguration/The Pit/The Sactifice", a rising and falling 18-minute track in three interlinked parts that best exemplifies the band's distinctive vision.

Review: It was early September when Laraaji first joined forces with log(m) in their Canadian studio. The legendary ambient artist has been back a few times since, but it's taken the dub-loving duo well over a decade to finish off, prepare and mix the material. It was, of course, worth the wait. "The Onrush Of Eternity" is a stunning set, with Laraaji's distinctive instrumental passages and drifting ambient textures gently ebbing and flowing around his studio partners' distinctively spaced-out, hi-tec dub rhythms and bubbly electronic flows. There's enough variation across the triple-vinyl set to please those who like to pick and choose tracks, though it's so engaging and immersive you'll want to listen to it straight through in one 105-minute sitting.

Review: Eddie Ruscha is always a reliable source for sublime electronic escapades beamed in from his uniquely sunny sound world. It's an idiosyncratic style best captured on his Secret Circuit alias, which makes a welcome return with the first new album since 2016's limited CD release Mind Bowling. This time he's shoring up on Invisible Inc. with an expansive sketch pad of tripped out delights, leaning in on dub processes and making the myriad synth patterns perform acrobatic feats over each other for 21 tracks of neo-psychedelia with a potent tropical slant.

Review: Outer-psychic dance orienteers Invisible Inc. return to the fore with a bright, effulgent, new wave and disco infused EP, Sordid Sound System's 'Gimme Fever'. A pungent, eight-track mini-record best played at a motorik tempo, this one wafts full Oort clouds of psychosomatic orga-noise in a refractive stylistic rain-ring, coming full circle on torrential synth cascades like 'Gimme Fever' and 'Inanna'. Opener 'Wired Wyrd' is circuitous and boxy enough, and keeps truer to a surfy song format, recalling early filter-glam James Ferraro. We reach a full, pavilioned exotic head within the plodding pergola that is 'The Ocean', up which rare vines climb a trellis made of tuned steel pans and reso-sploited marimba.

Review: Italy's cosmic adventurer Tagliabue packs his synths, drum machines, and science fiction literature, ready for another excursion into the great black beyond by way of a record that packs as much nostalgia as it does ideas for future sounds. Following in the footsteps of pioneers like Franco Battiato, Klaus Schulze, Boards of Canada, and Plaid, it's a place where lights blink in rhythmic time, basslines warble enough to satisfy dance fans, and nothing is quite as it seems.

Below the electronica flight deck, things are even denser and more difficult to unpack. Ethereality makes itself more than known on tracks like 'Galassie Lontane', nodding to label rosters such as 4AD back in the day. A psychedelic adventure into vivid, colourful universes, slow motion trippy weirdness constantly visible through the ether.

Review: It's been 40 years since Michal Turtle released his seminal, ground-breaking album Music From The Living Room into the world and promptly disappeared back into the aether. An extremely obscure cult classic known only to deep diggers and aficionados of the finest order, it wasn't until Music From Memory reissued some of the tracks from it via retrospective compilations of Turtle's unreleased music almost 30 years later that his name become more widely known and a new generation were able to discover the artist's unique and pioneering style of experimental electronic music production, the majority of it very much ahead of its time, and to this day still timeless. Invisible Inc. contacted Turtle in the summer of 2023 about releasing something else by him, and it was during this exchange of emails that ideas were expressed about releasing not simply a straightforward reissue of Music From The Living Room to mark its 40th anniversary (the album has never been reissued in full), but rather a re-imagined and re-constructed take on the album, bringing contemporary techniques, styles and newly recorded vocal and instrument parts into the mix and breathing new life into these wonderful compositions. Collaborators old and new were brought into the studio and the songs re-created from the ground up. Familiar songs like 'Are You Psychic?' and 'Village Voice' are overhauled and echo remnants of their original counterparts, but simultaneously sound like completely new tracks. The always mesmerising 'Phantoms Of Dreamland' is represented through a live recording at Cafe OTO, featuring original album vocalist Lucianne Lasalle and regular collaborator HOVE on electronics. The remaining tracks, however, will be completely new to the ears of most people, never having been reissued or heard in these new forms ever before.

Review: In order to mark their 20th release, Invisible Inc has put together this tremendous compilation loosely inspired by Philip K Dick's dark, retro-futurist sci-fi masterpiece Blade Runner. It's a willfully eclectic and hugely atmospheric affair that tends towards the cosmic and otherworldly, with contributing artists including a mix of experimental pioneers, lauded experimentalists and contemporary rising stars. Highlights come thick and fast throughout, with notable cuts including a languid, pitched-down Afro-cosmic remix of Richard Bone's "Saiyuji Dawn" by Daniele Baldelli and Marco Dionigi, the sludgy mix of field recordings and tropical ambience that is Komodo Kolektif's "Fire Walk", a glistening chunk of West Coast bliss from Secret Circuit, a deep space ambient dub masterpiece by Bal5000 and some impeccable ambience from long-serving electronic composer K. Leimer.
