Review: The staying power of B.R.M.C. in their seventeen year history - not to mention the extent that their influence is felt in the modern-day psych scene - somewhat belie the detractors who dubbed them a style-over-substance experience on their arrival. Sure, the sunglasses-indoors attitude and obsession with heavy-lidded cool are present and correct on this two-hour, triple-LP set as always, yet what comes across strongest is not only the nocturnal charge of their sound but the indelible strength of their songwriting. More than a mere greatest hits selection, Live In Paris is a worthy documentation of a band whose cadaverous charms appear built to last.

Review: Heading into their twentieth year playing together, leather jacket-clad San Franciscans Black Rebel Motorcycle Club have been ploughing a gnarled furrow of grungy blues rock over their previous seven albums, hitting the spot every time. After a five-year break, their eighth record, 'Wrong Creatures' typically carries all the skulking and indignant fuzzbox riffs, stomping blues drums and gloomy seedy vocals that have become their stock in trade. However, BRMC have subtly pushed themselves further here, unexpectedly imbuing in their songwriting more nuance and emotion, marking a step forward in their writing and showing a little more of their depth as a band.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club are one of those rock 'n' roll bands that defy expectations. You're not that likely to run into a die hard fan on the street, or in any given bar, but turn up to one of their gigs and the level of reverence they command will be only too clear. A fusion of grit, riffs, sweat, drums, walls of sound, and thick bands of rhythm, we challenge anyone not to leave fully infected by their spell.

Released in 2010, Beat the Devil's Tattoo is BRMC's sixth studio album, and certainly up there with their moodiest offerings. It's scuzzy, it's downtrodden, but also hopeful and experienced, with tracks like 'The Toll' offering a break from the leather-clad, red-lit cacophonies that sandwich its rousing chorus and melodic harmonicas.
