Review: One of the cheekiest cuts from their rip-roaring Monkeytown LP, Modeselektor draft in their old buddy Otto Von Schirach for some nasty electroid bass action. Appearing here in dub form, the edits of "Evil Twin" come thick and crafty, while the rave-ready sensibilities remain intact, pirouetting around an insistent yet ever mutating bassline. "German Clap" however sees the boys tackling a more UK Funky led approach, offset by monolithic crescendos of synths. With a mid-section break reminiscent of Altered Natives' "Rass Out", you can't really go wrong can you? Once again Modeselektor prove that you can straddle depth and chaos in dance music and make it work. Pressed up on a nice picture disc too!
Review: German trance and electro veteran, Tomcraft made a comeback on Great Stuff this year, with this gobsmacking belter of a 12". "Tell Mummy" is Tomcraft at his best, where heavy bass drums meet quick-firing bursts of electrolike basslines to create a serious head pouncer! The Richard Dinsdale remix is equally as good if not better, taking a more minimalistic perspective by reducing those previous electro shots to woozing melodies that oscillate uncontrollably. Top quality electro - Juno HQ approved!
Review: Now an established partnership, after huge singles including "Hello" and "Boys & Girls", Canadian electro band Dragonette join forces with producer Martin Solveig for this new single taken from Solveig's recent album "Smash". While their original employs a relatively simple mix of chanted vocals and skewed synth chords, remixes from Ziggy Stardust, Les Bros and Denzai Park add a bigger, club-sized alternative set of mixes of this indie/dance hybrid.
