Bristol post punk reissued by Emotional Rescue

Stuart Leath’s label will release archival recordings of the west country’s floating line up, Mouth.

Keeping up with the movements of Stuart Leath’s conglomerate of Emotional-related labels is quite the task, and when we last checked in the reissue focused Emotional Rescue was about to take a six month hiatus in lieu of reissuing a long lost album from The Laughing Light Of Plenty. With the new music of Emotional Response taking the lead with the four-part Schleißen series in 2015, this year took off with a Juno Plus-loved retrospective of the Diskant label The Durian Brothers run which collected material from the odd-ball trio themselves, Harmonious Thelonious and Don’t DJ. Not that it ever really left, but Emotional Rescue is back reissuing music, this time by Mouth, a Bristol post punk concern who the label say “trail-blazed leftfield percussive jams in the rich vain of Liquid Liquid and ESG but in their own jazz-infused way.”

Spearheaded by Andy Guy and Rob Merril, known for their ties to storied The Wild Bunch – and subsequently Massive Attack and UK chart toppers Soul II Soul – this Mouth reissue is equally inspired by Bristol’s multicultural St Paul’s district and the city’s famous Dug Out club. Entitled Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea, the reissue presents Mouth’s complete recordings, of which there were three, and Emotional Rescue suggest sounds heard across its seven tracks are for dub tribal punks to cherish and other bass heads gravitating Adrian Sherwood’s On-U territory.
