Demdike Stare, Aïsha Devi and Rashad Becker are amongst the latest names to be invited to Krakow in October.
Like every year, the line-up for Unsound’s flagship festival in Krakow gets more detailed and intriguing with every passing month. In July we revealed that Lena Willikens, Helm and Don’t DJ had been thrown into the mix for this years gathering of the leftfield electronic cognoscenti, all contributing towards the 2016 theme of dislocation. As ever there’s a strong tendency towards collaborative projects, live performance and exclusive premiers, and the latest round of acts to be announced further fuel this notion.
Demdike Stare have been a regular fixture at the Polish festival, and this time around they will be debuting a live show that reportedly follows on from their series of Testpressing 12”s. Meanwhile Emptyset will be performing a site-specific piece in a tram hall that promises to feature self-made instruments and visual elements, and Rashad Becker will play live. After turning in a considerable highlight of last year’s edition, Amnesia Scanner will return to Krakow for Unsound 2016 to perform their Lexachast project with PAN label head Bill Kouligas. Aïsha Devi will be presenting her Of Matter and Spirit live show with visuals from Emile Barret, Errorsmith will be showcasing a new live set for the first time and there will be more straight-up sounds from Phuture, Anthony ‘Shake’ Shakir and Bryan Kasenic.
In terms of more thematic happenings, Dasha Rush and Stanislav Glasov will offer their study of “the poetic implications of black holes”, entitled Dark Hearts Of Space, while South Africa’s Faka will explore “the role and position of the black queer body”. There’s also plenty of local talent from Polish juke artist Jakub Lemiszewski, Ceglarek & Dybala, Aarps and Poly Chain.
In something of a surprise turn, Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein of S U R V I V E have also been added to the line-up to perform live renditions of their themes from the recent, wildly popular Netflix series Stranger Things. To see the full list of additions to the line-up, and everything that has been announced already, head to the official Unsound site.
Unsound will take place in Krakow on October 16-23.
