Monad opens up to Downwards pair OAKE

OAKE-stage

Eric Goldstein and Konstanze Bathseba Zippora take up ranks on Stroboscopic Artefacts.

There’s something to be said of Stroboscopic Artefacts’ Monad series, a digital platform now turned sub-label run by Luca ‘Lucy’ Mortellaro out of Berlin. Since day one, Monad has prided itself on presenting artists a space to bend the confines of what can be considered techno and dance music to breaking point; Eomac, Peter Van Hoesen and Yves Dey Mey’s Sendai project and Lucy and Speedy J’s Zeitgeber collaboration among the recent contributors. Acting somewhat as a breeding ground for new talent too, the series was inaugurated by Chevel in 2010 who released his most accomplished LP, Blurse, on the label last year, with emerging names Charlotte Isabelle and Tel-Aviv’s Yotam Avni lined up for Monad releases in 2016.

Full details of Downwards duo OAKE’s debut on the label have now surfaced, with Eric Goldstein and Konstanze Bathseba Zippora providing Monad with a requisite four tracks, with Ignazio Mortellaro’s alien fossil aesthetic firmly in place. It provides OAKE with a first solo release following their debut 2015 LP on Downwards, Auferstehung, described in a review by Richard Brophy as showing the pair’s “satanic majesties’ potential”. Set for a September release, OAKE’s Monad XXIV follows Lucy’s Self Mythology LP, Perc’s Ma EP and a split 12″ from Rrose and Kangding Ray, with the vocal wash of “Paysage Depayse” on this EP to most likely appeal to the tastes of Blackest Ever Black and Downwards fans.

Stroboscopic Artefacts will release Monad XXIV by OAKE on September 9.
