Hyperdub announce Babyfather album

Dean Blunt’s latest music project takes shape with a debut long player BFF due in April.

Forever an individual to keep you on your toes, erstwhile Hype Williams man Dean Blunt has taken to working under the Babyfather name of late. The trail began last year with Hyperdub surreptitiously slipping out a free zipped archive of eight unreleased Blunt productions dating back to 2014 under the title Babyfather, and the project has slowly gathered momentum. October saw Blunt and Arca collaborate on the Babyfather track “Meditation,” which subsequently gained a 10″ release through Hyperdub, whilst earlier this month he put out a 25 minute mixtape called Platinum Tears.

The next stage in the development of Babyfather is a debut album, which true to form, is scheduled to arrive on April Fools Day through Hyperdub. Taking the slightly unwieldy title BBF Hosted by DJ Escrow, the album’s announcement has been accompanied by the following quote attributed to actor and DJ Idris Elba: “Without a doubt, I guarantee that it will be in rotation at every club, at every party and coming out the speakers of every car …this makes me proud to be British.” This theme of British pride extends to the quite superb artwork depicted below; the 23-track album features several more collaborations with Arca as well as a contribution from the excellent Mica Levi.
