Sustain-Release returns

A second edition of the upstate New York festival will take place in September with Kassem Mosse, Veronica Vasicka and Galcher Lustwerk among the first round of announcements.

Last year we despatched Brendan Arnott to Camp Lakota in the Catskills Mountains in upstate New York to report on the inaugural edition of Sustain-Release and his glowing report suggested the festival had all the makings of an annual fixture. Overnight, Sustain-Release founders Aurora Halal and Zara Wladawsky unveiled their initial plans for a second edition of the festival which again takes place at Camp Lakota over the weekend of September 11-13 with a slightly increased capacity of 700 and a first round of names that has us checking the price of flights to New York.

Whereas as the 2014 edition of Sustain-Release focused largely on emergent New York and US talent, the line-up for this year’s festival looks to expand that remit further with a live set from Workshop man Kassem Mosse the headline draw. 1080p artist Via App, responsible for one of our favourite tapes on the label last year, is another live performer confirmed for Sustain-Release. Joining them will be two label bastions of New York in the shape of Minimal Wave founder Veronica Vasicka and The Corner’s Anthony Parasole, the latter of whom has the honour of closing out Saturday night with an extended DJ set.

Smart Bar figurehead and all round superb selector The Black Madonna and White Material’s Galcher Lustwerk are also booked to DJ whilst Beautiful Swimmers will oversee proceedings at the planned pool party. Anyone that has been enjoying their cassette mix for The Trilogy Tapes will know how smart a move that is. Marshall ‘Marshallito’ Hansen’s subBASS Sound System have been commissioned to equip both indoor stages with boutique sound and Mutual Dreaming associate Nitemind will be on hand to lend his trademark light installations.

Two initial rounds of ticket sales for Sustain-Release sold out overnight with the festival adopting a membership-only policy similar to Freerotation. A further final round of tickets will go on sale on June 16 with more names scheduled to be announced at that date too. Further details on the ticketing system can be found at the official Sustain-Release site.

Sustain-Release takes place on September 11-13.
