Planet Mu explore RP Boo’s Classics
The label have dipped into the unreleased archives of Kavain Space for an upcoming record due in April.
So far this year Planet Mu’s continuing endorsement of the US footwork scene has manifested in the announcement of a debut album from Jlin, a Indiana-based producer whose Dark Energy LP is due out next month. The label have now revealed the return of a more established figure within footwork in the shape of RP Boo, aka Chicago native Kavain Space, who featured on both Bangs & Works compilations from Planet Mu as well as delivering a superb debut album in 2013’s Legacy.
Space is widely credited with an integral role in footwork evolving out of Chicago’s ghetto house scene in the late ’90s and the newly announced Classics Vol. 1 from Planet Mu looks to document this period of RP Boo’s productions. Due out in April, the six-track release consists of RP Boo material that has never been officially released until now, and features the Ol’ Dirty Bastard sampling “Baby Come On”, the 1997 track that was responsible for spawning the frenetic genre.
Planet Mu will release Classics Vol. 1 by RP Boo on April 9.
