Mumdance mixes Fabriclive 80

A rather impressive looking 27-track mix from the irrepressible Mumdance will arrive in March.

Hot on the heels of the release of 1sec – a single with Novelist for XL Recordings – comes the news Mumdance is the latest artist invited to put together a mix for the Fabriclive series. Described on Twitter by the Farringdon club/label as their “worst kept secret”, Fabriclive 80 looks to be the most adventurous mix in the series for some time on the basis of the sheer diversity of artists featured. Italian techno artist Shapednoise opens proceedings with an unreleased track and the subsequent 70 minutes finds Mumdance weaving between music by Root Strata co-founder Jefre Cantu-Ledesma, Sweet Exorcist, WANDA GROUP, and Sculpture alongside artists you might more readily associate with a DJ set from him such as Logos and Strict Face.

A press release from Fabric quotes Mumdance, real name Jack Adams, stating his motivations behind the selection process was to reflect both his musical education and where his sound might be going. “I’ve made a conscious decision to focus on interesting rhythms and drum arrangements, moving away from more conventional 4×4 drum patterns. Although some of the selection might be challenging in places for some listeners, in my own personal experience it’s not the most immediate music which has the greatest longevity, it’s the music which you really have to build a relationship with before you get the most out of it which ends up being closest to your heart. Overall I wanted this to be a mix which people would return to.”

Fabric will release Fabriclive 80 by Mumdance on March 16.
