Emotional Response introduces Schleißen series
Harmonious Thelonious, Colin Potter, Alessio Natalizia and more will feature on the forthcoming series of split ambient and drone releases.
With Stuart Leath currently involved in no less than four conceptually distinct labels, it’s not surprising that the newly announced Schleißen is being stressed as a contained series within Emotional Response as opposed to an all new label endeavour. Due to launch in February, the four-part Schleißen series sees the label invite a cast of interesting and, in some cases, unheralded artists to commit to exploring “the further reaches of ambient, drone and rhythmic percussion” across one side of an album. The first edition of Schleißen finds Durian Brother Stefan Schwander adopting his Harmonious Thelonious guise for a split release with VCO Tapes artist Abul Mogard, and it transpires the Düsseldorf-based artist was the inspiration for the series.
Schwander apparently handed Leath a CDr of “more experimental pieces” during the Musiccargo LP launch at Düsseldorf venue Salon Des Amateurs, and upon hearing the material the idea for the Schleißen series was born. Previews of both Harmonious Thelonious contributions can be streamed below along with a short excerpt of Mogard’s “Dizziness That Shakes Rivers And Mountains”, described as “near 19 minutes of pure, modular beauty”. Future Schleißen releases will feature contributions from Polish artist The Phantom, Sad City, Don’t DJ, Tropical Hi Fi, Cass. and a special one-off collaboration between Colin Potter, Alessio Natalizia (Not Waving / Walls) and Guido Zen (Brain Machine).
Emotional Response will release Schleißen 1 by Abul Mogard and Harmonious Thelonius on February 9.
