Abdulla Rashim has Unanimity

The Swedish producer will release his debut album on Northern Electronics in May.

First emerging on his own self-titled label back in 2011, Abdulla Rashim has cultivated a brand of extended, atmospheric techno that explores African and Arab motifs under a cloak of intended anonymity, whilst adding respected hubs like Prologue, Semantica and Studio Barnhus to his discography. Last year saw Rashim expand his CV to label curator with the foundation of Northern Electronics, issuing work across a variety of formats from fellow Swedish artists such as Varg, and Råd Kjetil Senza Testa, whose music is more explicity drone and noise.

In an interview with Rashim published on this site last month, the producer laid out the decision to start the Northern Electronics label, stating: “In the beginning I had the idea that I might want to put out music from friends or so but as more as I tried to imagine sounds that would be fitting the more I came to understand that the idea I’m having of what A.R.R. should sound like is so narrow. I realised that nothing else besides my own work would ever make it there, that’s why I started Northern Electronics.”

Rashim also hinted in that interview that he was currently in the process of finishing a debut album for release on Northern Electronics, and the exact details of this long player have now been confirmed. Entitled Unanimity and due for release in May, the nine-track album was mastered by respected engineer and producer Giuseppe ‘Neel’ Tillieci, and features some typically fine design work from the Böfüms agency. This album should should mark the onset of a busy year for the label with Rashim confirming an LP from Ulwhednar (his project with Varg) is on the way along with further material from SARS, Acronym, and some Swedish industrial goth from DIY artist Vit Fana.

Northern Electronics will release Unanimity by Abdulla Rashim on 2LP, CD, cassette and digital formats on May 5.
