Sex, Drugs & House is all Marquis Hawkes needs

Preview the producer’s forthcoming return to Dixon Avenue Basement Jams.

Due out in mid October, the brashly titled Sex, Drugs & House EP maintains Dixon Avenue Basement Jams’ position as the sole outlet for original Marquis Hawkes material. When we spoke to Hawkes earlier this year, the camera-shy producer revealed why he felt so home at Dixon Avenue Basement Jams, stating: “I’m just concentrating on making the best music I possibly can rather than trying to rack up the releases like notches on a bedpost, which is why I was down with sticking to one family-like label”.

Since then Hawkes has appeared further afield, gracing Créme and the excellent Crow Castle Cuts with remixes, but you get the sense there’s a real simpatico between label and artist and the upcoming four tracker finds the producer in inspired form. “Get Yo Ass Off My Grass” is a particular highlight and already stands aside “Sealion Woman” as our favourite production in the Marquis Hawkes canon.
