Audio Technica announce AT-LP1240USB turntable

Audio Technica have just announced details of their brand new USB vinyl turntable, the LP1240USB.

Although the revered 1210s have unfortunately gone the way of the dinosaur, there’s certainly no shortage of alternative options out there to choose from, and Audio Technica’s offering seems set to carve out their own niche in that increasingly crowded marketplace.

With its black exterior, sturdy feet, raised power knob and cast-aluminum platter with stroboscopic speed markings, the design seems to be a direct homage to the 1210, and the hardware, including direct-drive 16-pole, 3-phase motor purportedly offering “unwavering speed stability along with easy back-cueing, forward and reverse play and quiet operation” would seem to give the classic 1210s a run for their money.

A notable difference however is the addition of a USB input, allowing vinyl to be ripped to your PC or Mac with the included Audacity software, which will no doubt appeal to those who want to rip all those hand-stamped white labels for digital posterity.

No release date has been announced, but it’s expected to cost around £549, and the model’s full list of features and specifications can be found at Juno.
