Actress reveals R.I.P.

On a day when people were getting to grips with the prospect of Werkhaus boss Actress performing live at the Tate Modern’s Yayori Kusama exhibition, full details of the elusive producer’s third album also slipped out.

As reported in Resident Advisor, Darren Cunningham’s third album, entitled R.I.P., will be released via Honest Jon’s in April, some two years after the West London label released his stunning second long player Splazsh. The finalised tracklisting has been slightly tweaked from the previously publicised photographs of two CDrs the producer posted on his Twitter account last month accompanied by some typically amusing text.

Recent material from Actress, namely a two track 12″ and two remixes of material from Shangaan Electro – both released on Honest Jon’s – have shown the producer to be heading towards a singularly uncompromising and unparalleled sonic direction, something which will purportedly continue on R.I.P.

Cunningham travelled to the Democratic Republic Of Congo in 2011 to take part in the Damon Albarn led DRC Project, in a week-long venture that saw him collaborate with Congolese musicians and contribute material to an album later released on Warp Records. Juno Plus spoke to Actress at length about his time in Africa; if you missed the interview first time round we suggest you check out here. The producer also has another album in the works, which will be released on his own Werk Discs imprint.

Honest Jon’s will release R.I.P. by Actress on April 20, 2012.
