Details for this year’s annual series of Sónar events have just been announced, with a host of diverse acts appearing at its events in Spain, Japan, Brazil and South Africa.
All eyes are of course primarily on Sónar’s Barcelona event – taking place over the weekend of 14-16 June, the line-up is split between big name acts and more underground concerns. Heading the bill are the likes of The Roots, Deadmau5, Fatboy Slim and Richie Hawtin, but supplementing these names are more interesting prospects such as label showcases for Hyperdub, Brainfeeder and 100% Silk, a live set from Jacques Greene, and appearances from Juno Plus favourites Modeselektor, John Talabot, Julio Bashmore and Blawan, who is playing what will no doubt be an interesting back to back set with Xfm DJ Mary Anne Hobbs.
The main event is supplemented by three further events: a Cape Town showcase on 2 March, featuring Modeselektor and Brodinski, a Tokyo event on 21-22 April with the likes of Squarepusher, Clark, Mount Kimbie and Rustie, and a São Paulo event taking place on 11-12 May, featuring Björk, Jeff Mills, Four Tet and Hudson Mohawke among others.
Further names are expected to be added over the coming months – full line-up details can be found at the Sónar website here.
