DBA Special Editions explores Traces Of Malmokon
A new talent delivers a 12” to the Don’t Be Afraid sublabel.
Don’t Be Afraid continues to exercise a healthy release rate in 2016, with the shimmering orchestration of Typesun’s entry into their 10″-shaped Dubs series complemented by the excitement over a debut LP from M GUN. Before that latter release arrives, the label’s attentions will focus on the Special Editions offshoot which returns next month after something of a hiatus. Described as the “rave ready” arm of Semtek’s ever-productive label, Disco Nihlist, Neville Watson, Mr G and ‘techno detective’ Jack Murphy have all served up singles to the spin-off operation in the past.
So far Traces Of Malmokon has not been spotted anywhere before the announcement of this single, but the anonymous artist strides into the fray with four cuts of stripped down and brittle techno with shades of Robert Hood, DBX and other such classic tough minimalists pumping through the blood stream. All four tracks move with the same level of late night intensity, although the decorative content veers between primal bleeps and shards of industrial noise. Look below for a video accompanying lead track “Tso”, directed by Max Kelan, and then head to the DBA SoundCloud for a stream of the full tracks.
DBA Special Editions will release Tso by Traces Of Malmokon on March 5.
