Power Vacuum launches sub-label Inversions

IV

The new electro-acoustic inspired offshoot looks to doom metal, psych rock, punk and more.

The onslaught of beats Power Vacuum have rained down on us in recent years have in come think and fast. Spearheaded by Milo Smee’s Bintus project, Power Vacuum’s past 24 months has seen the likes of heavy hitters Objekt, An-i (aka Lee Douglas) and Jerome Hill shift some serious weight onto the Vectors series of various artist EPs, while other music fired in came from the likes of Rephlex’s Cylob, Bristol’s JoeFarr and Serbia’s Scalameriya. This year Power Vacuum has so far released two records in EDMX’s Mind Mechanixx EP and another intriguing collaboration with New York rapper Sensational that Milo Smee helped produce under his Dissident-friendly Kruton alias.

Perhaps a third release from Power Vacuum has been put on hold for the launch of Inversions, a new sub-label founded with Thomas Franklin, bass player for synth pop act Thieves Like Us. This new division is said to encompass, “electro-kraut, psych-punk, lo-fi popfolk, prog-fusion and drone doom-metal,” and launches with the five-track split 12″ Inversions001 which has ” one eye on some sort of dance floor, but equally at home on the turntables of bedrooms and after-parties.” Leading the charge is former Stereolab members Tim Gane and Joe Dilworth, aka Cavern of Anti-Matter, while Smee presents two other collaborations in Booze with Demian Castellanos (of The Oscillation fame) and and Clean & Jerk with fellow Inversions founder Franklin. To gauge some kind of aesthetic behind the label, Inversions have put together a mix that’s streaming below taking in music from Consumer Electronics, Rodion G. A., Moebious and Steve Albini.

Inversions will release Inversions001 by various artists on September 12.
