Honest Jon’s presents Shackleton With Ernesto Tomasini
Details of the enigmatic producer’s collaboration with the eccentric Italian have surfaced.
Continuously refreshing the front page of Hard Wax is probably the best way to keep up with Shackleton’s movements as they happen, with his Deliverance series surfacing on the Berlin record store’s website sporadically last year. Clips have now surfaced of a new collaboration with former stage actor Ernesto Tomasini (pictured), an Italian singer and performance artist based in London whose previous works in music include projects with Nurse With Wound’s Andrew Liles and Coil’s Peter Christopherson. It’s now transpired that Honest Jon’s will release a four-track Shackleton & Ernesto Tomasini LP called Devotional Songs in what’s being described as “Shackleton’s most expansive, ecstatic and hallucinatory music to date.”
A label write up suggests Tomasini’s “four-octave voice” can fluctuate from deep growl to piercing falsetto, while adding these four longform pieces add to the development of Shackleton’s recent Deliverance series and Powerplant performances. “These are shadowy songs rich with allusions to bodily ritual and psychic exploration,” writes Honest Jon’s of the 2×12″ release, “with Tomasini’s lyrics framed by luminous whirls of hand-struck drums and synthetic gamelan, bells and tumbling organ melodies.” The release swiftly follows Kassem Mosse’s Chilazon 12″ and Wareika Hill Sounds’ Mass Migration 10″ which follows their work with Tapes on Datura Mystic in 2015.
Shackleton With Ernesto Tomasini Devotional Songs is available now with a worldwide release on July 22.
