Christoper Rau is C-Rau
The Smallville regular trims his name down and beefs his sound up for Die Orakel.
The sound that hovers around German label Die Orakel can be a tricky one to pin down in some ways. Oliver Hafenbauer’s three year old project has taken a measured but purposeful approach to building up a catalogue with a mixture of respectable artists both familiar and less so to followers of the deeper folds of house and techno. Edward is of course as good as a household name these days, but it was no less surprising to see him remixing the legendary Harmonia & Eno ’76 project last year. Elsewhere CB Funk has popped up on the label under the TCB alias, while lesser known talents Jaures and Pablo Mateo have turned in releases as well. This year saw Hafenbauer kick off the X-Files series with a single from Live At Robert Johnson regular Orson Wells, abbreviated on the Slam Dunx / Slangin Rockx 12” to O-Wells.
Continuing this theme of pared-down names, Smallville regular Christopher Rau is next in line for the Orakel X-Files with the lean and mean C-Rau moniker. The Hamburg producer has been recently seen stepping out under his Rhythmus Günther guise on the self-released Three Strikes Out single, while just last year he dropped the Bad Business EP as T.R. “Early” Earl on Nsyde. That’s not to say his work as plain old Christopher Rau has been lying dormant, with Out-Er and Dérive both enjoying single releases in 2015. For this particular record, Rau brings a range of styles to bear on Orakel X-Files 2, spanning nervy techno and slinky, looped-up deep house with a pleasing dash of weirdness running throughout. Die Orakel will release Orakel X-Files 2 by C-Rau in April.
