Avian reissue Grace project from Vereker
The Ascetic House tape will get a 12″ vinyl edition thanks to Shifted’s label.
Cast your gaze over recent releases from the Avian label and it may become apparent founder Guy ‘Shifted’ Brewer is an avid follower of the many tape labels currently proliferating across the continents. 2014 saw Avian reissue Dual Action’s Auto Body after it had initially been issued on cassette by Dominick Fernow’s Hospital Productions, whilst last year saw Chicago-based composer and visual artist Connor Camburn bring his Litüus project to Shifted’s operation after first surfacing on a series of tapes. After issuing records from Shawn O’Sullivan’s 400ppm alias and Resin upstart Pris, Avian have announced their next release which again originates from the humble tape format.
It is Grace, a rhythmic industrial project from Oliver Vereker of L.I.E.S., Berceuse Heroique and Endangered Species repute which is the focus of Avian’s attentions, specifically the self-titled cassette released through California collective Ascetic House. Issued last June, the eight-track cassette paired basic synthesis with warped vocals in the same manner as industrial progenitors Throbbing Gristle and Steven Stapleton. For their 12″ reissue, Avian have pruned the original eight untitled tracks down to just four whilst producing new artwork based on the original black and white scanned cover from regular Vereker collaborator Darja Bajagić. You can heard the third “Untitled” track below for an idea of what to expect.
Avian will release Grace by Grace on March 21.
