Sensational and Kruton hit the right spot
The New York rapper lends his vocal talents to Milo Smee’s beats to form a new Kruton release on Power Vacuum
It was last May that we last reported on Power Vacuum, with Milo Smee’s label bringing Chris Jeffs’ Cyclob project back to the surface after a seven year hiatus with the Inflatable Hope EP. In addition to that, Power Vacuum kept itself afloat in 2015 by putting out a second Vectors EP featuring Jerome Hill and Anklepants while the other artist release came from the heavyweight Serbian-Italian techno connection of Scalameriya & VSK. Lately Smee has been moonlighting on other labels, with Bintus records due on Bedouin and Shipwrec, but he’s also scheduled himself in for the first Power Vacuum release of 2016.
Entitled You In The Right Spot, the upcoming record sees Smee collaborating with New York rapper Sensational under his lessser-spotted Kruton alias. A project dating back to the late ’90s, Kruton will be familiar to fans of Andy Blake’s Dissident label and remained dormant after that cult concern was shut down. A recent 12″ inaugurating the Wrong Era label saw the return of Kruton and January will see further material complemented by the distinct tones of Sensational.
Sensational, aka Colin Julius Bobb, is of course best know for his output on seminal hip hop and instrumental label WordSound, with Bill Kouligas’ PAN committing Spectre’s rare Ruff Kutz mixtape the label put out in ’98 to vinyl earlier this year. He’s also been a frequent collaborator with Madteo, appearing together on records for Morphine and Meakusma. A press release for the upcoming You In The Right Spot explains Sensational’s vocals have made their way to music Smee wrote between 1997 and 2003 in what’s been described as “weapons grade prana, hooks and bass.”
Power Vacuum will release You In The Right Spot by Kruton on February 9..
