Meakusma welcome Levon Vincent, Roedelius, Liebzeit and more to Eupen

The Belgian label plots an expansive event in their hometown this December.

When we profiled Meakusma last year, co-founder Michael explained, “even when we started the label for us it was always very important to also do concerts and parties… cos without this live thing, it wouldn’t make sense for us.” Having maintained a healthy relationship with the EU-funded Goethe-Institut since their earliest forays in electronic music events, the Belgian label has always placed a significant importance on organising events that reach beyond the simple trappings of hegemonic club nights to present something a little more diverse, albeit without rejecting the value of forward-thinking dance music. Although they have often turned to Brussels community art space Recyclart for their shindigs, both Michael and Christoph from Meakusma have their roots in Eupen, a town to the East which sits close to the border with Germany.

If proof were needed of the scale of event the label can turn its hands to, then this gathering at the end of the year should do the trick. On Saturday December 5 the Kulturzentrum Alter Schlachthof in Eupen will play host to a joint Goethe-Institut and Meakusma event with three rooms brimming with a diverse array of talent. For the clubbier concerns, Levon Vincent, Efdemin and Zenker Brothers lead the charge in the Halle, while in the Kühlraum some intriguing live performances have been planned. In something of a celebration of German electronic music culture, Hans-Joachim Roedelius (of Cluster and Harmonia) is appearing alongside Stefan Schneider of Kreidler and To Rococo Rot, while Hans-Joachim Irmler of Faust and Klangbad will be collaborating with Jaki Liebezeit (legendary drummer from Can amongst many other projects).

In the Foyer the more relaxed musical offerings will come from Golden Pudel booker Ralf Köster DJing in his Rüftata 110 guise, alongside recent Meakusma signing and New York DFA character Bryce Hackford. You can find more information out about the event here, and purchase tickets via the web app here.
