Front & Follow announce debut Shape Worship album

A City Remembrancer from the London-based producer will arrive in October.

Ed Gillett first surfaced under the name Shape Worship back in early 2013, debuting in impressive fashion on the Exotic Pylon label with Observances, a six-track 12″ which former Juno Plus contributor-turned celebrated men’s fashion writer Tom Banham felt “shifted seamlessly between movements rather than sitting on any one idea for two long”. Since that debut, Gillett’s sonic adventures as Shape Worship have brought him to shadowy collective Gang Of Ducks, with the Throughways 7″ their debut physical release, and contributions to several compilations.

October will see the arrival of a debut Shape Worship album, with the pet-loving producer aligning with Manchester independent Front & Follow for a 12-track long player called A City Remembrancer. Recorded over the last 18 months or so, A City Remembrancer is heavily inspired by the “disorientation, beauty and verticality” of London with Gillett utilising field recordings and vocal samples for a “nuanced, politicised eulogy to the city and its inhabitants”. You can get a taste for how that plays out with the soft-hued album opener “Tamesis (Vision)” streaming in full below.

Front & Follow will release A City Remembrancer by Shape Worship on October 16.
