Software announce new Co La album
Matthew Papich will return to Daniel Lopatin’s label with a new album, No No, due in October.
One of the year’s most rewarding albums so far has been 1 by Lifted, the communal supergroup of gifted minds headed by Future Times man Andrew Field-Pickering and Co La artist Matthew Papich, that slipped out without prior warning on PAN back in April. An album that uncovers new detail with each listen, it was also important for bringing the work of Papich to our attention with previous Co La output for NNA Tapes and Software flying under our radar. As an aside, those looking for further insight into the Lifted project should check out this Vinyl Factory interview with the participants.
Today Software revealed October will see Papich return with No No, his second album for the label and sixth overall. Some ten tracks deep, the new album is apparently a reflection of Papich’s interest in the “never ending psycho-drama that is the American news cycle (f5 syndrome), blanketed with a style of auditory/performative humor that operates as a coping strategy, a modifier for an otherwise oblique sonic world.” The glossy sounding “Suffering” is available to hear below and should offer a hint at what to expect from No No, whilst the label also reveal Vancouver’s 1080p will release a special cassette edition.
Software will release No No by Co La on October 9.
