Strict Face and Rabit move in Different Circles
Tearz / Into Stone is the third single on Mumdance and Logos’ emergent label.
As the fiercely creative modern grime scene splinters and connects with the rest of the electronic music melee, Mumdance and Logos represent perhaps the most succinct example of how irrelevant genre boundaries have become in recent times. The pair’s Different Circles label has only released two 12”s previously, one being the bulging six-tracker Weightless Volume 1 and Logos’ Glass EP. Those two records have suggested that it’s hard to know what to expect from the label, ranging from atmospheric half-step contemplations and ambient dread through to bright and chiming grime riffs.
On the debut split release that kicked off the label, Australian producer Strict Face and Rabit stood out with their distinctly oddball takes on sublow sounds and the pair will now return for the third Different Circles 12″. As FACT report, the tracks on DIFF003 have been popping up plenty in sets from Mumdance and Logos, and a quote from Mumdance suggests that Strict Face’s “Into Stone”, “has a real innocence and sense of brooding about it, which reminded me of when I first heard “Functions On The Low” by XTC.”
You can however make up your own mind about the sound of Rabit’s track thanks to the below upfront stream. Those not wishing to miss out on the physical release can beat the speculators by placing a preorder directly with the label, ahead of the release next month.
Different Circles will release Tearz / Into Stone by Rabit & Strict Face on September 18.
