Planet Mu announce 20th anniversary compilation

A rather hefty 50-track triple CD compilation featuring both old, new and unreleased tracks and remixes will arrive in September.

For such a landmark occassion, Planet Mu have so far glided through their 20th year as a record label with a degree of noticeable restraint, electing to focus their efforts on a series of strong artists albums. Diverse footwork long players from J Lin and RP Boo have been complemented by a quite dizzying John T. Gast record and albums by Ekoplekz and Drew Lustman. The chance to reflect on the label’s two decades was evidently too hard to resist for Mike Paradinas (pictured above) with news arriving of a startling compilation due later this year under the simple title Planet Mu – 20th Anniversary Compilation.

Due to arrive in early September, the compilation crams in some 50 tracks across three CDs and is accompanied by a 100-page book charting the history of Planet Mu, with writer Rory Gibb seeking out insight on the label from artists and staff. The first two discs cover artists the label have worked with over the last decade and features Kuedo, Machinedrum, John Wizards, Ital Tek, Remarc, Boxcutter, RP Boo, John T. Gast, Jlin and also formally introduces new Planet Mu singing Herva. A third disc looks deeper into the Planet Mu archives and covers a range of “noisier, knottier” artists such as Jega, Neil Landstrumm, Speedy J, Shitmat, Leafcutter John, Hellfish, Datach’i and Hrvatski.

Planet Mu will release Planet Mu – 20th Anniversary Compilation on September 4.
