Henry Wu next on Rhythm Section International
Good Morning Peckham will arrive on the London label at the end of the month.
Sharing his name with BD Wong’s dinosaur DNA dabbling scientist from the Jurassic Park franchise, Henry Wu is among a clutch of promising young London artists who have been label hopping with aplomb these past few years. Most recently spotted excelling on the Odd Socks label, Wu has previously featured on Alexander Nut’s Ho Tep label as well as sharing sides with Jeen Bassa on a 22a record. The description of Wu as a “slightly blazed, MPC-wielding beatmaker more concerned with wringing maximum warmth and soul from each beat, chord and melody, than fitting into any particular genre or dancefloor niche,” from this review by Matt Anniss seems most appropriate.
Given the company Wu keeps, a record for Rhythm Section International makes sense with the Good Morning Peckham 12″ due later this month and follows releases on Bradley Zero’s burgeoning label from London duo FYI Chris and Australian avant poppers Retiree. Some six tracks deep, the upcoming record is described as “a long time coming” and apparently sees Wu step out in front of the mic for the first time on two productions.
Rhythm Section International will release Good Morning Peckham by Henry Wu on July 27.
