Broken20 to release Tengui album

TVO’s label will debut Max Bacharach’s production alias with Transference.

Ruaridh Law’s Broken20 label has been slowly creeping its way onto the Juno Plus radar since 2013 when Don’t Be Afraid’s Semtek broke a production hiatus with the release of his Nagual EP. Across the label’s catalogue you’ll find productions and remixes from the likes of Bass Clef and Sculpture to Shifted’s Covered In Sand project, Cassegrain, Perc and Emptyset’s Paul Purgas, and of course Law’s own project, TVO. The label’s most recent release comes from Mick Finesse with his Glamour Of Despondency album, and news now arrives Max Bacharach’s debut proper as Tengui will arrive in late July. For the moment, Bacharach’s production credentials can be found in remix form thanks to reworks of Perc’s Wicker & Steel album, and Finesse’s “Mettle Debris” from his 2012 Spatial Anxiety EP released by Broken20.

Among London-dwellers, though, Bacharach is best known for his work with Colony, a largely techno focused clubnight that ran between 2008 and 2013 responsible for putting up some of the biggest and most adventurous line-ups the city’s seen. Production-wise, however, Broken20 have described Tengui’s six-track Transference album as a body of work that is “grubby and imperfect and wise and moving,” while stating the music, “knows itself, understands the crevasses in its own character, and wants to tell you its stories by cold firelight.” Listen to a full stream of album track “Kicktrip” below.

Broken20 will release Transference by Tengui on July 27.
