Mannequin announce Carmody retrospective
Tracks culled from rare tapes by the early-’80s Turin act feature on the forthcoming Sleep On Mirrors – The 1981-1985 Tapes.
Whilst they may now operate out of Berlin, Mannequin still occupies the mantle as the go-to label when it comes to documenting the rich vein of synth-pop, new wave and electronic acts that surfaced throughout Italy in the 1980s. After comprehensive forages through the archives of Musumeci and their Der Zeltweg label, 2+2=5, and Monuments in recent years, Mannequin will shine a light on another Italian act from this clearly fascinating period of Italian music history in the shape of Carmody. Taking their name from Robert Sheckley’s science fiction novel Dimension of Miracles, Carmody was founded as a duo by Turin musicians Alberto Ramella and Andrea Lesmo with guitarist Max Casacci joining later.
Carmody’s music has featured on Mannequin previously, with one track included on the label’s Danza Meccanica – Italian Synth Wave 1982 – 1987 from 2009 and also later featured in the Mutazione selection former Walls man Alessio Natalizia put together for Strut. The upcoming Sleep On Mirrors – The 1981-1985 Tapes however looks to document the band’s output and importance to the local scene, pulling together material from the three super-rare cassettes Carmody self-released through the early-’80s. A full stream of brisk opening track “Messengers Of Love” should clue you in on what to expect from the upcoming retrospective.
Mannequin will release Sleep On Mirrors – The 1981-1985 Tapes by Carmody on July 20
