Midwich launches with Moon Pool and Dead Band
The first release on the new Chicago label will see material from David Shettler and Nate Young reworked by an illustrious cast of producers.
Overseen by long-term US underground fixture James Marlon Magas, Midwich is a new label hailing from Chicago with a focus on electronic music in its many forms and, judging by our editor’s excitable reaction, looks to be a most promising endeavour. Midwich will launch next month with two rather dashing records featuring the retina-burning work of renowned artist Mark Salwowski. The first comes from Magas himself under his all cap self-titled moniker and is called Heads Plus – you can hear a cut from the five-track 12″ over at Tiny Mix Tapes.
Set to drop at the same time is a double pack release which sees Midwich inviting a whole host of US producer to revisit and rework one of the earliest tracks David Shettler and Nate Young recorded together as Moon Pool and Dead Band. “MEQ” originates from the pair’s debut release, the 2010 Untitled CDr issued through AA Records, and can be heard in all its grubby glory below. For this release Midwich have enlisted James T. Cotton, BMG, Patrick Russell, Ice Cold Chrissy, Ghostly artist Dykehouse and more to rework the track, placing half hour “stems” in their possession and letting them run riot.
Midwich will release MEQ by Moon Pool and Dead Band on July 14.
