Reanimator resurface on Community Library
The Portland label will release a new album from the elusive pair called Damaged Bads next month.
Overseen by Paul ‘Strategy’ Dickow and David ‘ Solenoid’ Chandler, Portland label Community Library has maintained a self-described “casual pace” throughout its 11 year duration but has still issued some music of real note. In 2006, Community Library struck gold with the release of the Special Powers, an album from mystery US duo Reanimator consisting of material committed to reel to reel in 2000 and rescued from New Orleans on the eve before Hurricane Katrina’s landfall. Taking inspiration from Vainio, Pan Sonic and Sähkö Recordings, Reanimator’s album can essentially be seen as an early example of the ‘noise techno’ idea that was described by Phillip Sherburne as “the best thing I’ve heard all year,” in his Critical Beats column for The Wire that year.
Absent since the release of Special Powers, news now emerges that Chandler and Dickow have coaxed some new material out of Reanimator for a second album due on Community Library next month. Entitled Damaged Bads. the eight-track album is once again drawn from the Reanimator archives between 2007-10, and a press release states it sees them “re-joining a wave they quietly helped to start”. You can stream Damaged Bads in full ahead of release on the below SoundCloud player via THUMP. Furthermore, Community Library tell us “we don’t release records particularly often but this year we’re doing several,” so expect to hear more from the Portland label as 2015 rolls on.
Community Library will release Damaged Bads by Reanimator on July 13.
