Gábor Lázár joins The Death Of Rave with EP16

The Hungarian producer will follow Powell, Delroy Edwards and Merzbow with a record on the label.

The Death of Rave imprint has treated fans of dark, challenging and otherwise weird music to some interesting records since it debuted with Mark Leckey’s Fiorucci Made Me Hardcore in 2012. As well as what is still one of Diagonal boss Powell’s best records, the label has released archival material from L.A. Club Resource boss Delroy Edwards and black metal from Wold, making its trajectory difficult to predict.

Its next release is another surprise, coming from Budapest-based Gábor Lázár, a producer whose precise electronic pulses sit somewhere between the extreme academic sonics of Florian Hecker and the more rhythmic dance floor structures of Mark Fell and SND. As well as co-founding the Last Foundation label, through which he released a split tape with Russell Haswell, Lázár released the I.L.S. album on Lorenzo Senni’s Presto!? label earlier this year.

Entitled EP16, his record for The Death of Rave features “viscerally affective electronic timbre” and “hyperkinetic patterns” of hardcore, footwork, electro and digital dancehall, fused together with “uncompromising electronic tones to create some kinda new rhythmelodic syntax and grammar of his own.” Excitingly, The Death of Rave also reveals that Lázár is working on a collaborative LP with Mark Fell, due on the label in the near future.

The Death of Rave will release EP16 on LP format on October 13.
