Neel enters the Phobos
The Italian producer and mastering engineer will release his debut LP on Spectrum Spools in November.
Giuseppe ‘Neel’ Tillieci is perhaps best known for his celebrated work as Voices From The Lake alongside compatriot Donato Dozzy, with the pair issuing the 2012 masterclass in ambient techno that was Voices From The Lake on Prologue. In addition to this production output, Tillieci also commands a decorated reputation as a mastering engineer having worked with labels such as Semantica, Prologue, The Bunker New York, Morphine and Spectrum Spools. This latter label, overseen by Emeralds man John Elliott, have now announced exciting plans to issue the debut album from the Rome-based Neel.
Entitled Phobos and due in November, the seven track set is drawn from the same ambient material that made up recent Neel live performances at both the recent MUTEK and Atonal festivals. A press release on the Spectrum Spools site penned by Labyrinth festival’s Russell Moench suggests Tillieci’s inspiration for the album is derived from “an elaborate narrative concerning Phobos, the larger of Mars’s two moons,” which is destined to collide with the red planet. Moench also states unequivocally that “this album more than most, will benefit from whatever outrageous hi-fi you can swing at it. Don’t just play it loud – play it well.” You can get an idea of what to expect from the album via “Life on Laputa Regio” which is streaming below.
Spectrum Spools will release Phobos by Neel on November 10.
