Mexican Summer scoops up Torn Hawk

The inimitable Luke Wyatt will release the superbly named album Let’s Cry And Do Pushups at The Same Time through the New York label in November.

Readers of Juno Plus should be more than familiar with the work of Torn Hawk, the main musical concern of the Brooklyn-based pioneer of ‘video mulch’ Luke Wyatt. Having first established himself as a visual artist of some repute thanks to treatments for Peoples Potential Unlimited, I:Cube and Mi Ami, Wyatt turned to music and the Torn Hawk project which debuted with the fairly unclassifiable Tarifa 12″ for L.I.E.S back in 2012. Since then, Wyatt’s various music projects have charmed their way onto a diverse array of labels including Not Not Fun, 1080p, Rush Hour No ‘Label’ and No Pain In Pop.

News now arrives that major NYC-based independent label Mexican Summer have been wooed by Wyatt’s unique musical approach, and are set to release a third Torn Hawk album in November entitled Let’s Cry And Do Pushups at The Same Time. Obviously Wyatt has quite a way with words – he did after all elect to present the tracklisting for the mix he did for us last year as a long form prose poem – but that album title is up there with his finest work. It also ties in with the overarching concept of “parodying toughness” that runs through much of Wyatt’s work as Torn Hawk, and a video for the album’s opening track “I’m Flexible” should give anyone not familiar with his work an idea of what to expect from Let’s Cry And Do Pushups at The Same Time.

Mexican Summer will release Let’s Cry And Do Pushups at The Same Time by Torn Hawk on November 10.
