Trevino launches new label Birdie

Marcus Kaye makes a logical step to house from his prospering techno profile as Trevino. 

With a storied career in drum and bass circles as Marcus Intalex stretching over two decades, Manchester based producer Marcus Kaye signalled a change in sonic direction with the establishment of the Trevino name in 2011. First appearing on a split release with Instra:mental for Martyn’s 3024 label, the Trevino name appeared to be an outlet for Kaye to produce in a more explicitly 4/4 framework, albeit with plenty of scope for broken rhythms and heavy sub bass. Since then, the Trevino discography has blossomed with further releases for 3024 emboldened by output for a variety of labels such as Klockworks, Applepips, [NakedLunch], Sub:Stance and The Nothing Special.

With a lack of material this year apparently down to Kaye working on his golf handicap, news now arrives he’s set to add another label to his profile specifically for material as Trevino (he’s behind the long running Soul:R label too). Taking the golf-themed name of Birdie, the new label will apparently allow Kaye, “to explore the depths of his sound with no holds barred”. It launches next month with Trevino EP 01, a four track 12″ of floor-ready techno that like much of Trevino’s output seems to sway between moments of foreboding sonic chaos and compelling harmony and melody.

Birdie will release Trevino EP 01 by Trevino on September 29.
