Patricia surfaces on Spectral Sound with Side Piece
The Opal Tapes affiliate will join the Ghostly International family for a new EP next month.
The keen A&R skills of Opal Tapes boss Steven Bishop are the reason for the wider world falling for the charms of Patricia’s brittle techno music, with the six-track Body Issues cassette from the search engine-mocking Brooklynite proving to be one of the label’s fastest sellers. The tape’s popularity and musical content led Bishop to reissue Body Issues in 12″ format as the inaugural release on the Black Opal label earlier this year, and though there hasn’t been any Patricia material in the ensuing months the producer has remained resolutely busy.
Earlier this year L.I.E.S. issued a self-titled 12″ from the Inhalants project done in collaboration with Jahiliyya Fields, and it seems Patricia is something of a serial collaborator with the Patreke and Taxes projects currently bubbling away with Terekke and NGLY respectively. Patricia fans will be glad to hear Ghostly offshoot Spectral Sound have scooped him up for a new release entitled Side Piece which is due out next month. Comprised of three original productions and a self-styled I-94 lick from Juno Plus favourite JTC, Side Piece comes described as “built from cinderblock kick drums, soot-covered modular synths, hissy tape recordings, and equal parts early Aphex Twin and Underground Resistance”.
Spectral Sound will release Side Piece by Patricia on August 25.
