R&S introduces Alma Construct
19-year-old producer Jack Thompson is the latest new artist to sign up with R&S Records.
With Tessela’s Rough 2 hitting the shelves on Monday, it’s a busy week of new additions for R&S Records with news of a forthcoming album from London beat don Paul White now followed by another label debut in the shape of teenage producer Alma Construct. His five-track RS1408 EP also follows the introduction of another newcomer this year, Shanghai Den, and adds to what’s becoming a busy year for R&S, with Lone’s well received Reality Testing LP complemented by further drops from Alex Smoke and Irish duo Lakker.
Across its five tracks RS1408 presents a diverse mixture of sounds veering from industrial broken beats and horror Italo to house, breaks and a streak of summery pop not too dissimilar to Vondelpark’s “California Analog Dream” released on R&S last year. The EP is said, in parts, to take inspiration from La Planète Sauvage, a ’70s stop-motion science fiction allegory by René Laloux, with the press release adding that Thompson “utilises an array of beatboxes, samplers, tape machines and guitar pedals to assemble his warm, immersive sound.”
R&S will release Alma Construct’s RS1408 on August 26.
