Roman Flügel returns with new album
The much loved German producer will release Happiness Is Happening through Dial in September.
It’s been some two years since the release of Fatty Folders, Flügel’s debut album under his given name (he has released three further long players using a number of other guises) and music from the German has surfaced on an intermittent basis. The superb Cookie Dust 12″ for local label Live At Robert Johnson was Flügel’s first offering after that LP and since then he’s appeared on Clone’s Jack For Daze label as well as collaborating with UK modular synth fetishists Simian Mobile Disco for their Delicacies series.
We first got wind Flügel was working on a new album for release on Dial late last year and today the Hamburg label announced it more formerly. Due out in September, Happiness Is Happening is described in a press release, silkily penned by Gerd Janson, as “a testament to the fact that the concept of an album that works within the realms and boundaries of ‘electronic (dance) music’ can be so much more than a loose collection of 12-inches or just an exercise in style.”
For his own part, Flügel revealed in a brief Q&A with RA that Happiness Is Happening is a departure from Fatty Folders in that “the basic groove is a little different. It is more machine-driven, no bongos this time. You will hear a piano here and there but probably under a surface of distortion”.
Dial will release Happiness Is Happening by Roman Flügel on September 1.
