Horsepower Productions meet Beneath on Berceuse Heroique
“The notorious Berceuse Heroique” dips into the archives of UK soundsystem culture once again for their next store only edition.
Earlier this year, Berceuse Heroique sprung a surprise with the announcement of a reissue of “This Ain’t Tom & Jerry”, one of Dennis ‘Dego’ McFarlane’s brukkest productions from 2002 under the Cousin Cockroach alias. Complemented by a contemporary effort from Future Times captain Max D, BH 04.5 was made all the more special by the inclusion of a themed poster from noted artist Ken Sortais. It was evidently a winning formula, and one that will be replicated next week when Berceuse Heroique drops another special edition release featuring two distinct generations of the UK underground ,with a Horsepower Productions remix from some 13 years ago reissued along with a cut by No Symbols boss Beneath.
As scholars of the hardcore continuum will be well aware, the Horsepower Productions collective played an integral part in the formation of dubstep, melding the percussive swing of UK Garage with bastardised elements of dub and jungle, making them quite the perfect 12″ partner for Beneath. For this release, Berceuse Heroique has licensed the gnarly Horsepower Productions remix of “Return To E” by Re-Animator originally issued on the short-lived Vertical Drop label in 2001, whilst Beneath contributes the rather icy “WIP” which has been a much requested dubplate weapon for some two years.
Both tracks can be streamed below and Max D also lends his hand to this release, showing off his illustration talents with the above poster; the record will be available exclusively through the label’s distributor Honest Jon’s.
Berceuese Heroique will release BH 06.5 by Horsepower Productions and Beneath on Monday.
