Say Hola to new Hivern Discs act CPI
The new project from Marc Piñol and Hugo Capablanca will debut on the Barcelona-based label next month.
Hivern Discs completists should be more than familiar with Marc Piñol, who has completed the odd remix for the label as well as showing off his knowledge of rare music with some excellent contributions to the highly sought after Hiverned series. Piñol is less known for his original material however, and much the same can be said of Hugo Capablanca, a self-described “eternal dilettante” who has put out a few collaborative 12″s on Gomma and contributed tracks to Cómeme and Astro Lab. The Berlin-based DJ and producer is perhaps better known for the Disco Capablanca label he founded half a decade ago which has infrequently released material from Mutant Beat Dance, William Burnett’s Grackle project and Two Dogs In A House (aka Steve Summers and Ron Morelli).
Given the lack of original productions from Capablanca and Piñol, the CPI project makes for potentially compelling listening, and will debut next month with the El Túnel/Proceso 12″ for John Talabot’s Hivern Discs label, According to a press release, the genesis of CPI can be traced back to two afternoons of intense recording in Piñol’s Barcelona studio with the results channeling their “shared love for Psychic TV, Industrial Music and New Beat” with “El Túnel” described as a “15 minute cosmic odyssey”. These two original CPI productions are complemented by a remix of “Proceso” from Barnt, the Cologne-based producer and founder of the Magazine label which can be streamed below.
Hivern Disc will release the El Túnel/Proceso 12″ by CPI on May 5.
