More Blank Slate on the way

Blank Slate image
Preview the first EP from René Audiard since Soren Jahan’s alias helped set up the label last year.

Although there’s only been one René Audiard release on Blank Slate before this, the Berlin-based American producer has played a key role in the development of the label by providing a Turkish-inspired EP as Düve with Ali Çakır, while also putting out a stream of releases under various names for Blank Slate’s sister label Supply. Blank Slate 007 takes off where 002 left and Jahan provides an impressive follow up to the Villalobos-sounding and lengthy “Cywilizacja Pt. 1” with “Cywilizacja Pt. 2”. The B-side again shows off more of Jahan’s oriental expression and “Lamia” – taking its inspiration from Greek mythology – features loose tribal drumming, Middle Eastern chanting and thick basslines embedded in an industrial ambience. From the below preview, this record seems like quite a different trip from the sounds heard on 2012’s Pechorin LP but well worth a listen.
