By all accounts it looks like Jorge Velez is set for a truly impressive year of releases in 2014; around the time his excellent Territories LP for L.I.E.S. was announced, our pals at FACT detailed a number of records from the New Jersey-based producer, including releases for DJ TLR’s Créme Organization and the Skudge Presents series. Whilst concrete information of those releases are yet to surface, Velez is about to release the Ausland 12″ for Rush Hour, the label responsible for collecting the producer’s series of killer archival MMT Tapes 12″s on one double LP compilation late in 2012.
Intriguingly, an interview posted on the Rush Hour label site today revealed it was Danny Wolfers that persuaded Velez to consider releasing the tracks that made up the MMT Tapes series, after hearing the material on a mix Jorge had put online. As Velez tells it, “Danny listened and emailed me to ask what it all was, and I told him it was my old music. He was into it and he pushed in the right directions to have it heard by people who could release it.” It’s worth reading the interview in full, with Velez going on to state much of his forthcoming material including both tracks on the Ausland 12″ – available to hear in full below – was recorded in 2013 having been inspired by his experiences of touring and travelling that year.
