Russell Haswell and Pain Jerk collaborate on Editions Mego
The noise and electroacoustic artists will release the Electroacoustic Sludge Dither Transformation Smear Grind Decomposition nO!se File Exchange Mega Edit 2CD in June.
Although the last release from Russell Haswell (pictured above) saw him engaging more directly with the rhythms of the dancefloor on the 37 Minute Workout LP for Diagonal Records, his next release will see him return to more expected noise fare on a collaboration with Japanese noise artist Kohei Gomi AKA Pain Jerk. Described as “a punk academic collision which utilises advanced computer music techniques and analogue/digital modular synthesizer splurge”, the collaboration dates back to 1997 when the pair first met in Tokyo. In 2012 the pair finally realised their plans for a collaboration at the Rammel Club in Nottingham, prior to which they swapped files of solo material with the intention of creating an “extreme duet tag mass attack”.
Due for release on Editions Mego in June, the unwieldily titled Electroacoustic Sludge Dither Transformation Smear Grind Decomposition nO!se File Exchange Mega Edit is in fact a reedited and recontextualised version of their original Nottingham performance, running across two CDs. The finished work – which takes the form of one 73 minute piece and one 35 minute piece – can be previewed via a five minute except in the SoundCloud player below.
Editions Mego will release Electroacoustic Sludge Dither Transformation Smear Grind Decomposition nO!se File Exchange Mega Edit on 2CD and digital formats on June 9.
