Mr G returns to Don’t Be Afraid
The elder statesman of UK techno will grace the next DBA Special Editions release.
It’s hard to distill Colin McBean’s contribution to electronic music into just a few paragraphs, with a quick glance at his Discogs page confirming just how much music he’s been responsible for under numerous names and collaborative projects over the years, most notably The Advent alongside Cisco Ferreira. Mr. G has been McBean’s main production guise for a while now, and the past year alone have found him in highly prolific form with a near constant stream of releases for Rekids, Running Back, Holic Trax and his own Phoenix G operation.
News now arrives that McBean will be joining Disco Nihilist and Neville Watson in comtributing to the DBA Special Editions series with The Tutonic EP. Due out in late April, the three-track release fits snugly into the diverse spectrum of techno tools that McBean has been refining over the past few decades. The forthcoming record also finds Mr. G on a Don’t Be Afraid release for the second time, having remixed “Bells” by label boss Semtek for the label’s first release back in 2010. A brief message from the producer explains the inspiration for the music: “Thought out remembering the great time I had playing (Berghain) by Mr G @ 23 The Heights. Thanx to Phoenix G.”
DBA Special Editions will release The Tutonic EP by Mr. G on April 28.
