Marco Bernardi next on Happy Skull
The Kelly Twins look to an elder statesmen of UK electro for their next release – preview it here.
To date Happy Skull has released three records from contrasting yet like-minded producers, with Rhythmic Theory, Adjowa, and Kowton and Hyetal’s Systems of Desire project all helping to establish the label’s aesthetic for raw, machine music with colour, melody and soul. The addition of Bernardi makes for a pleasant surprise, given the Glaswegian producer’s pedigree with a rich seam of releases for Frustrated Funk, Clone, Créme, Planet E and more in his arsenal. Anyone who indulged in the debut release on Bernardi’s fledgling Take The Elevator label, Zabazza Cabasa by Clover Ground, will know the Bristol-based producer is currently favouring the more unhinged end of the 4/4 spectrum, something that definitely shows in his Happy Skull bow.
Due out in late April, a nine-minute chunk of the three tracks is available to preview below, with the high octane “Floating” complemented well by the delay-laden box jam “Broken Boiler” and “Upside In,” an unsettling guttural analogue exercise that wouldn’t sound out of place on Jamal Moss’s +++ label.
