Further Reductions prepare Woodwork for Cititrax

The long promised LP from the Shaun O’Sullivan and Katie Rose project will be released on Minimal Wave’s sister label next month.

Although New York-based Shawn O’Sullivan will be known to most for his industrial leaning techno productions for labels like Avian, L.I.E.S. and The Corner, the Further Reductions collaboration with Katie Rose dates back as far as 2008, formed to explore a vocal-led, contemporary take on the minimal wave sound. Having releasing only a 7″ and cassette for Captured Tracks and Robert & Leopold respectively, the long promised Woodwork for Veronica Vasicka’s Cititrax label will provide the duo’s first LP.

The label describes the LP as a combination of O’Sullivan’s rhythmic sensibility and Rose’s pop leanings, combining the influences of classic techno and early house to create “super lush and atmospheric tracks that work both on and off the dance floor.” As you’d expect from Cititrax, whose recent releases have seen searing EBM techno from Doug Lee’s An-i moniker and the throbbing machine funk of Elon Katz and Beau Wanzer’s Streetwalker project, Further Reductions’ engagement with the dance floor is anything but ordinary, with the LP described as substituting “the structure of functional club music with a more primal absorption based in their unique collaboration” together with a “complex narrative that penetrates the subconscious in a way that conventional club music rarely threatens to.” Interested parties can hear clips of the LP at the Minimal Wave website.

Cititrax will release Woodwork by Further Reductions on LP format on April 30.
